RE: ASSISTANCE TO THE VICTIMS OF THE RECENT EARTHQUAKE IN THE PROVINCE OF BATANES

DATE: 27 JULY 2019

Greetings from the League of Provinces of the Philippines!

In the early morning of Saturday, 27 July 2019, two magnitude 5.4 and 5.9 earthquakes struck the Province of Batanes, leaving eight (8) people dead, one (1) missing, and sixty-three (63) injured, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Toward this end, the League of Provinces of the Philippines is mobilizing its efforts at soliciting assistance – whether in kind, financial, human resource or any other form – from its member provinces, to aid in the relief, recovery and rehabilitation efforts which have already begun shortly after the earthquake struck. Pursuant to Sec. 21 of R.A. 10121, “the LDRRMC may transfer the said fund (LDRRMF) to support disaster risk reduction work of other LDRRMCs which are declared under state of calamity.” Enclosed is the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s Resolution declaring the Province of Batanes under a state of calamity.

Hence, in this connection, may I also suggest and highly encourage our dear governors to give P100,000 each to help out in the rescue and relief operations of Gov. Cayco in addition to any other financial assistance your Province can extend to Batanes.

You may send your assistance directly to the Provincial Government of Batanes. For cash and/or check donations, kindly deposit it directly to the official bank account of the Province of Batanes c/o Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) Account Number 1082-1008-37.

Should you have any further queries and clarifications, or should you need assistance from the relative to coordinating with the Province of Bataan, please feel free to contact our Admin and Finance Head Ms. Emy Magdurulan at (0917) 816-6226.

Thank you very much.
