MEMORANDUM

FOR: ALL GOVERNORS

RE: EARTH HOUR 2023

Greetings from the League of Provinces of the Philippines!

Earth Hour is a yearly worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It is also the most successful global campaign of WWF, wherein all is encouraged to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to cut down carbon footprint as a symbol of commitment to save our planet.

The League once again encourages its member-provinces to take part in this year’s observance of EARTH HOUR 2023 to address the climate crisis, among others:

• Releasing a Memorandum that invites officers, staff, employees, and constituents to join and be part of Earth Hour 2023 in their respective homes (25 March 2023 from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.);
• Mobilizing the private sector within your jurisdiction to support Earth Hour 2023 by switching off its members’ signage lights or some of their lights in their facilities, as their operations/business will allow (25 March 2023 from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.);
• Posting and/or sharing of Earth Hour 2023 communication materials (including, but not limited to, event poster, virtual roundtable livestream, virtual marathon publicity materials, press release, etc.) in your and the concerned private sector’s external communication assets; and
• Submission on or before 8 March 2023 to Earth Hour Philippines (Telephone Nos. 09178521525 or mbordado@wwf.org.ph) of a pre-recorded video of the switching-off of at least three (3) landmarks from your province.

As we enjoin participation to Earth Hour 2023, please be conscious of the safety guidelines to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the participants. We also encourage proper waste management in places where people may converge for the event and, if possible, making it a plastic-free and energy-efficient affair.

Let us together create the biggest Hour for Earth. Thank you and we are hoping for your participation.
