“We cannot condone such brazen disregard for human life, either as in innocent civilian, or even as a suicide bomber.”
This was the statement issued by League of Provinces of the Philippines national president and Marinduque Gov. Presbitero J. Velasco Jr. on the twin bombings in Jolo, the capital town of Sulu on August 24, 2020.
He said the country’s 81 governors collectively expressed condemnation to this act of terrorism which cost the lives of 15 people, including the suicide bomber, and left several more wounded.
“This incident can derail the peace efforts of government, something we cannot afford at this time while we are in the midst of battling another enemy that has also cost the life of more Filipinos, that is COVID-19,” Velasco lamented.
He said the LGUs are working closely with the national government to find permanent solutions to promote peace in Mindanao and the whole country.
“The key to sustainable development in the countryside is ensuring peace and security all around. We can all do our share in bringing around this development,” Velasco added. ###
