
Jeremias “Jerry” C. Singson is a seasoned political icon in the Province of Ilocos Sur. For 47 uninterrupted years, Jeremias had dedicated his time, wit, and passion in service of the people; for his heart from the very beginning has been for his beloved province – Ilocos Sur.
Jerry hails from the City of Vigan, a UNESCO recognized World Heritage Site, rich in history and culture. He was born on September 15, 1948, to Jose Sebastian Singson, a former Vice Mayor of Vigan City, and Caridad Singson Crisologo. From the same historic city, He finished his primary and secondary education at St. Paul College of Vigan, then known as Rosary College, and Divine Word College of Vigan, respectively. In 1965, Jerry finished a Bachelor of Science in Commerce at the University of Santo Tomas. Three years after finishing tertiary education, Jerry married the love of his life, Marylou Ancheta Tongson, who bore him three sons – Evaristo III “Bobit”, Jeremias Jr “Jay-Jay”, and John Patrick “Jay Pee”.
Jerry is a lifetime member of the Knights of Rizal and served as its Supreme Commander last Rizalian Year 2014-2016 leading the worldwide membership of the Order following the footprints of renowned Supreme Court Chief Justices, Senators, eminent persons and business magnate. During his term, he led the Order in the Supreme Court’s fight against the towering Torre De Manila that desecrated the skyline and respect to the Rizal Monument that conferred him with the Rizal Pro Patria, the highest decoration and award for a Knight of Rizal.
Jerry’s long journey as a public servant started in 1975 as Barangay Captain of Barangay Pagpandayan. He also served as the Vice Mayor of Vigan City in the years 1988-1995. In the years that followed, Jerry served as a Senior Provincial Board Member which his past advocacies and projects included Ubbog ti Biag (Spring of Life) Water Spring Development Projects in upland municipalities, targeting to benefit tribal communities, as such he was named “Ama ti Ubbog.” He was also named “Ama ti Day Care Services” as he pursued his Justly-Compensated Sponsorship Program for Day Care Workers in the year 2005. People also called him “Ama ti Medical Mission” as he spearheaded a series of medical missions in partnership with other organizations. The people of Ilocos Sur called Jerry, “Ama” or “Father” after all his accomplishments. As Vice Governor, he was called the Pillar of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Sur.
As Governor, Jerry aims to alleviate the lives of the people of Ilocos Sur, aiming primarily at local economic development – giving livelihood opportunities to his constituents and financial aid or assistance to Small and Medium Enterprises, especially after the onslaught of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Among his many other programs in pursuit of development, Jerry seeks to promote tourism by maximizing the richness in culture, beauty, and history of the Province of Ilocos Sur.
